Starter Motor Refurbishment

So I am a few months out of date.  I'll try and bring the tread up to where I am now.  Not made a huge amount of progress to be honest but a few things are further than they were.

I have refurbished the starter motor.  The old one looked like it had seen better days.  If I remember rightly this was a refurbished unit when it was on the car so I decided to strip, inspect and repaint it.  Here are the pics of my progress.

Before I started.

End cap off

Removed the long bolts

 Solenoid Off

Pull off end cover

Used a small wire wheel and dremmel to remove paint / corrossion

Prepped for paint in a homemade spray booth.  Don't tell my wife where the dish rack went !!
Inspecting commutator and brushgear  Looks in reasonable condition

Stator out ready for cleaning

Rotor ready for cleaning

Cleaned Rotor

Stator cleaned and ready to strip off paint

Under the paint was the original markings.  This suggests this unit is an original Valeo unit that has been refurbished.

Painted

All painted

Ready for rebuild

Completed Unit

Turned out nice

Stripping out the wiring loom & Brake Pipes

I have continued the engine bay teardown and have got on removing as much of the wiring loom as possible.

Various Looms

Had to pull it all through the bulkhead into the area in front of the windscreen

Loom all loose at one side.

Scuttle looking empty

Its some length of wire once its all unclipped.  Hopefully I can remember how it all goes together.

And out it comes.

Full loom

Very dirty scuttle.

The remaining part of the loom.  This plugs into the back of the fusebox.  Not sure I want to disturb this.  Leave it where it is for now.

Looking to remove servo now.  Brake pipes out already.

Comes out easy enough to a point then gets stuck on pedals underneath.  Note large hole in servo.

I can see the footwell.

Took off the fluid reservoir and master cylinder to make things easier.

Hmm - This has seen better days.

New one I think...

Finally got it out.

Servo and pedals.

Sadly I have not been able to locate a replacement yet.  Anyone any ideas?

Powdercoating

So I am lucky enough to have a local powdercoaters in my town.  http://www.pentlandpowdercoating.co.uk/

I decided to have some of my parts professionally powder coated.  Looking at some of the parts I painted with black hammerite back in 2008 they have not fared particularly well given the car has barely moved since then.  So the parts to go powder coating with...

Before

 After

I am very pleased with the results.  Most of it looks like new.  Nice durable feel to the coating as well.  Inspired by this I am certain to do more parts this way.
