Clutch as it came off.
I am not sure - but I don't think the middle metal bit is meant to be off centre?
Covered in surface rust.
Flywheel. I don't know if I should get this resurfaced or just clean it up? Any tips??
Off the car - Some signs of oil on the back.
Engine Block without flywheel. Not sure if its the crank oil seal or if the oil is coming from the engine rear?
Empty Engine bay. Plenty signs of oil down the back of where the engine was. On the plus side it may have kept corrosion at bay :)
Transferring the engine to the engine stand. This was harder than I thought it would be as the stand and the crane fouled each other making it a challenge to get them close enough with the right angle.
Engine on stand.
Engine on stand. You get a nice view of the oil leakage here.
This timing gear and water pump look like they've seen better days.
Checking I can fit the engine in and still close the garage door. Can do - but its tight.
Removing the bottom pulley - I had refurbished this back in 2008. The hammerite has not done well. There is some damage to it too so I may replace it. There are some nice ally ones about now.
Preparing to remove timing belt.
Off it comes.
Water pump next. It does not feel / sound nice. This was newly fitted in 2008. I guess sitting still for 10 years has not done it good.
Ugh! This sounds rubbish.
That will be why then.
Fair bit of corrosion / pitting in the housing.
As well as the pitting in the housing - It looks like a head bolt has went through it in the past. I may need a new block or a repair. :(
Removing the head bolts
Off with the head.
Block by itself.
Bores / Pistons look not too bad.
Very slight lip at the top of the liner. May come out with honing or may need new liners.
With the gasket off there is lots of visible corrosion products / sludge down the sides of the liners.
This does not look good. Not sure what's underneath.
So that's as far as I got before I had to stop. Next time i'll need to get the liners out to see if the block can be saved. But not looking good.
